PAUL BENEDICT
Playbill cover from the 1974 Booth Theatre production of Bad Habits, a dual with Benedict playing a role in each play.
Show bill cover signed "Best,/Paul Benedict". 5½x8¾. Playbill cover from the Booth Theatre Production of Bad Habits (1974, 177 performances). Bad Habits was actually two plays in one: Ravenswood and Dunelawn. Benedict played Jason Pepper, MD in the first and Hugh Gumbs in the second. An distinctive actor with a jutting jaw and melifluous voice that led some to believe he was British, Benedict (1938-2008, born in Silver City, NM) was in demand as an actor on TV, film and stage (including several Broadway credits) for over 40 years, with his last movie, 2008's Side By Each, in post-production as of his death. His characteristic features were caused by a rare and potentially fatal disease caused acromegaly, which he had treated as a young man. But he chose to play it up for laughs instead of tragedy. Audiences may remember him as Harry Bentley on The Jeffersons (1975-1985) and in comedic roles in The Front Page (1974), The Goodbye Girl (1977), The Man with Two Brains (1983), This Is Spinal Tap (1984), The Freshman (1990) and The Addams Family (1991). Lightly toned, soiled and soiled. Cover was torn from show bill at left edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
