PAUL HENREID Signed vintage sepia-toned photo of actor Paul Henreid sitting in a suit and striped tie Inscribed photograph signed "To/Alice/from/Paul Henreid" in blue ink. Post-It Note affixed on verso. B/w sepia-toned, 7¾x9¾ overall, 7 ¼ x 9 ¼ image, one surface, printed on cardstock. Born Paul George Julius von Hernreid in Trieste (now in Italy, then in the Austrian empire), Henreid (1908-1992) was originally cast in supporting roles, often as Germanic villains. After 1940, when he moved to Hollywood and became a U. S. citizen, Henreid began to get starring roles. These included Now Voyager (1942) and Of Human Bondage (1946), but his most famous role was that of resistance leader Viktor Lazslo, Humphrey Bogart's rival for the affections of Ingrid Bergman, in Casablanca (1942). Henreid could also swashbuckle, as in Buccaneers (1950). From the 1950s onward, Henreid focused on directing films (Dead Ringer, 1964) and TV episodes (Alfred Hitchcock Presents). Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Tackholes in left corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
