PAUL HENREID
Paul Henreid sends a typed letter to George Schaefer at RKO Radio Pictures about his wife's parents trouble and what they are doing to try to fix it.
Typed Letter Signed: "Paul Henreid", 1p, 7x10½. West Los Angeles, California, 1942 February 18. To Mr. George Schaefer, RKO Radio Pictures, Inc., Hollywood, California Begins: "Dear George". In full: "Thank you for your letter of February 11th. As you took such great interest in my wife's parent's trouble, I want you to know that Mrs. Henreid decided to leave for Washington on Saturday next. We feel that a personal contact with the State Department may prove very valuable although we have no influencial [sic] governmental friends to help. If you should think of somebody Mrs. Henreid should contact and who could be of assistance or giver advice, I would of course be grateful for your help. Kindest personal regards, Yours very sincerely," Born in Trieste (now in Italy, then in the Austrian empire), Paul Henreid (1908-1992) was originally cast in supporting roles, often as Germanic villains. After 1940, when he moved to Hollywood and became a US citizen, Henreid began to get starring roles. These included Now Voyager (1942) and Of Human Bondage (1946), but his most famous role was that of resistance leader Viktor Lazslo, Humphrey Bogart's rival for the affections of Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca (1942). Henreid could also swashbuckle, as in Buccaneers (1950). From the 1950s onward, Henreid focused on directing films (Dead Ringer, 1964) and TV episodes (Alfred Hitchcock Presents). Fold creases through signature. File holes at left margin. Staple holes at upper left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
