Price: $1,000.00
PAUL HEYSE. Autograph Letter signed: "Dr. Paul Heyse", 1 p,
5¼x8¼. Seeburg Pension (inn), near Lucerne, Switzerland, 1869
August 14. To "My dear Sir" (obviously an editor). In German,
translated in full: "The Swiss friend on whose authority I yesterday
changed some of the local color of the 'lost son,' withdraws today a correction,
which he had noted: confused with the Zürcher Town History, he was wrong in his
interpretation of the position of the Bern Wife of Rank so that I must ask you
to leave the former version wherever I had newly corrected wife of rank or just
wife and reinstate that part (right at the first visit of the man at the house
of Mrs. Amthor), where I speak about his position etc. in town and where my
friend had suggested less emphasis. However, I would like you to change the part
where Mrs. Amthor says 'I would give 500 Gulden, if the pubs on the island would
be closed' - to read instead 500 gulden hundred Kronen. With kind
regards, Sincerely." Heyse (1830-1914), an author of novels, plays, short
stories and poems, was the first German to receive the Nobel Prize in
Literature (1910) for his contribution to the development of the modern
psychological novella. He headed a circle of writers in Munich who opposed
the trend toward realism in literature. Ink note in upper left (unknown hand).
Docketed on verso. Vertical fold crosses "D" in "Dr." Slightly creased.
Otherwise, fine condition.
