North American. Paul Horgan (1903-1995) was an American fiction
and nonfiction writer. A historian of the American south, Horgan is the
recipient of two Pulitzer Prizes for History for his novels Great
River: The Rio Grande in North American History (awarded in 1955) and
Lamy of Sante Fe (awarded in 1976). Other works included A
Distant Trumpet (1951), Citizen of New Salem (1961) and The Fault
of Angels which won the 1933 Harper Prize. Among his list of
accomplishments, Horgan was also a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1947.
