Autograph Letter signed: "Paul Kester", 1 page, 5¼x6¾.
Washington, D.C., 1929 June 19. On letterhead of the Cosmos Club to
"Dear Mr. Milkmar", in full: "I take it as a compliment that
you should care to add my signature to your collection of autographs. Here it
is! Faithfully yours". Paul Kester (1870-1933), was best known as
a playwright, from Countess Roudine (1892) to The Woman in
Bronze (1920). He also wrote poems, short stories, a book of political
philosophy (Conservative Democracy, 1919) and two novels, one of them -
His Own Country - a notable work on race relations in the US. He was
the younger brother of novelist and journalist Vaughan Kester. The Cosmos Club
is a prestigious private club in the nation's capital. Toned. Mounting residue
on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
