PAUL LYNDE and GIG YOUNG
The actors sign on a 5¾x4¼ album leaf inscribed to a fan
Autograph note signed: "For Dora-/Keep laughin'/always/Paul Lynde" and, on verso, "Gig Young". With notations in black and blue ink in unknown hand. 5¾x4¼. Beginning with the 1963 Disney film Son of Flubber, Lynde (1926-1982, born in Mount Vernon, Ohio) played a series of movie character parts in which he made snide, cynical comments about everyone and everything. His notable performances include the long-suffering father in Broadway's Bye Bye Birdie and Uncle Arthur on TV's Bewitched. During the late 1970s, Lynde cultivated a fan following for his wisecracking appearances in the "center square" on the TV celebrity quizzer Hollywood Squares. YOUNG (1913-1978, born in St. Cloud, Minnesota) made his screen debut in 1941 in You're in the Army Now under his birth name, Byron Barr. The following year, he played a character named Gig Young in The Gay Sisters, and subsequently changed his name to that of his character as there was already an actor named Byron Barr in Hollywood. Young, who was awarded the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award in 1969 for They Shoot Horses, Don't They?, was also nominated in that category for Come Fill the Cup (1951) and Teacher's Pet (1958). He also appeared in a number of other films, including Sergeant York (1941), Kid Galahad and That Touch of Mink (both in 1962), and appeared on several television shows, including The Twilight Zone. Frayed at left edge from binding. Light show-through from signatures. Otherwise, fine condition.
