Photograph of the actor with "Cleo" from The People's Choice, signing in blue ink on the newspaper with best wishes from him and the hound. Extremely rare!
Autograph note on photograph signed: "Best wishes to Bill/and Edna from/"Cleo" and "Mayor/People" in "the/Peoples Choice"/Sincerely/Paul Maxey/Jan. 7, 1957", in blue ink, B/w 10x8. PAUL MAXEY (1907-1963) had one starring role in an A picture, that of Victor Herbert in Till the Clouds Roll By (1946), and a couple of lead bad-guy roles in B-movies (Sky Dragon, 1949). He excelled in smaller supporting roles which took advantage of his booming voice and plump physique. Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, he was cast as a slum lord, a butler, a coroner, a jeweler, and often simply as "portly man in hotel lobby,", "Fat Santa Claus" or "fat man paying for subway ride." He made many TV appearances in the 1950s, perhaps best remember as the mayor in Jackie Cooper's The People's Choice (1955-1958). Corners slightly worn and creased. Lightly rippled. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
