PAUL MUNI
Playbill for Inherit the Wind at the National Theatre, signed by the Academy Award-winning actor who played Henry Drummond. This was Muni's last appearance on Broadway; it earned him a Tony Award.
Show bill cover signed: "Paul Muni", in black felt tip. B/w, 4 pages, 6½x9, 1 sheet folded, front and verso. Front and back covers of the playbill for the National Theatre's production of Inherit the Wind (1955-1957), a dramatization of the Scopes Trial of 1925. Muni played Henry Drummond for five months in this production. Actor Paul Muni (1895-1967) was nominated for the 1928-1929 Academy Award for Best Actor for his first feature film role, drifter James Dyke in The Valiant. He was also nominated for Best Actor Oscars for roles in I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932-1933), The Story of Louis Pasteur (1936), The Life of Emile Zola (1937) and The Last Angry Man (1959), winning for his portrayal of Louis Pasteur. The actor had 12 appearances on Broadway between 1926 and 1955. Inherit the Wind was his last Broadway performance, but he made it count; he won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for it.
