1956. Accompanied by original mailing envelope
Typed letter signed "Paul Muni". Typed notations on
verso. 1 page, 6¾x8. Feb. 6, 1956. In full "Dear Mr. Brown: Thanks
from the heart for your note and warm expressions. I sincerely appreciate them.
I am sorry but I do not send photographs. The best to you". Accompanied
by Original mailing envelope, addressed from the National Theatre in New
York City. Postmarked New York City, Feb. 6, 1956. Addressed to Mr. Ken
Browne, Sioux City, Iowa. With one 3¢ red-and-white Andrew W. Mellon stamp
affixed. Otherwise in fine condition. Paul Muni (1895-1967) was nominated
for the 1928-1929 Academy Award for Best Actor for his first feature film role,
drifter James Dyke in The Valiant. He was also nominated for Best
Actor Oscars for roles in I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang
(1932-1933), The Story of Louis Pasteur (1936), The Life of
Emile Zola (1937) and The Last Angry Man (1959), winning
for his portrayal of Louis Pasteur. Stained at left, touching "P" of
"Paul". Folds and creased (not near signature). Show-through from
notations on verso (does not touch signature). Staple holes and paper clip
impression in top left corner. Envelope is lightly toned, soiled, stained and
creased. Rusted staple in bottom left corner. Neatly torn open at top edge.
