PAUL PENDARVIS
Bandleader poses wearing a tuxedo and holding a saxophone, signs name in black ink
Photograph signed: "To Charlie/ It has been a pleasure/ to work for you - here's hoping/ we can again -/ Sincerely/ Paul Pendarvis" in black ink. B/w, 8x10. Musician Paul Pendarvis (1907-1987) was educated at UCLA, where he became familiar with Hollywood entertainment business after appearing in a few small film roles. He moved back to his native Oklahoma and in the early 1930s he formed a dance band in Kansas City. Led by Pendarvis himself on the violin, the group enjoyed immediate radio exposure, particularly with their famed song "My Sweetheart". Soon they had engagements at the Congress Hotel in Chicago and many other Midwest venues and in New York. By the late 1930s the band had moved to Los Angeles, and soon Pendarvis broke up the bad to begin a career as a musical director of a California radio station. Corners rounded. Light surface creases. Toned. Paper affixed on verso. Ink notes on verso in unknown hand. Otherwise, fine condition.
