PaulSimon (1928-2003) represented Illinois in the House of Representatives (1975-1985) and United States Senate (1985-1997). He sought the Democratic nomination for President in 1988, eventually endorsing Michael Dukakis. When he was just 20 years old, he got together some investors and purchased the flailing Troy Call newspaper. He was the youngest newspaper publisher in the country. Over the next few years he grew his media empire to include over a dozen papers. Throughout his life, he actively campaigned against gambling, depictions of violence to children, and government corruption. During Simon's time with the Illinois House of Representatives (1955-1963), he adopted his signature look of a bowtie and horn-rimmed glasses. Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
