PAUL REVERE AND THE RAIDERS: PAUL REVERE and MARK LINDSAY
The album Here They Come, signed on a front cover showing all five band members dressed like barefoot Continental Army soldiers
Record Album Cover signed: "Mark/Lindsay", "Paul Revere", 12x12. LP record album, Here They Come (1965), signed on the front cover. Record included. PAUL REVERE (1938-2014) owned and ran three barber shops and a restaurant while still in his teens, but his passion was for music, particularly the boogie-woogie and R&B music which he had imitated while teaching himself piano. He joined MARK LINDSAY (b. 1942), who would handle saxophone and lead vocals while writing songs and producing albums, in a band which became Paul Revere and the Raiders in 1960. The group peaked in popularity in 1965-1966, with a string of hits which included "Kicks" and "Hungry". (The album offered here is from 1965.) An American band to counter the British invasion, the Raiders were featured frequently on Dick Clark's American Bandstand and were known for their energetic live shows. The group's popularity waned at the end of the decade, as youthful tastes moved toward psychedelic rock, but they still had some minor hits ("Indian Reservation", 1971), and continue to perform down to the present. (Lindsay, not content to lead what was becoming an "oldies" band, left for a solo career in 1975.) Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
