Autograph Note signed: "Paul Shepard", 1 page, 8½x11. Claremont, California, 1973 November 23. On letterhead of Pitzer College, in full: "Best wishes in your study of 'Murder Authors.'" Paul Shepard (1926-1996) has been called himself a primitivist and a "deep ecologist." He argued that human consciousness had been formed in the Pleistocene Ice Age, and that our species had taken the wrong road with the development of agriculture. His provocative books included Coming Home to the Pleistocene and The Tender Carnivore. Mailing fold crosses "d" of signature. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso shows through lightly at lower left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
