PAUL VAN DYKE
The minister and educator signs a letter responding for a request of a signed photograph
Autograph letter signed: "Paul van Dyke", in black ink, 2 pages, 4½x7. March 10. Princeton. In full: "My dear Sir: My name is spelt with a small V. I have the degree of D.D. from Williams College. The copy of signt came duly at hand. I am happy to say that I have no photograph except one taken seven years ago of which I believe I could find a copy if you want it. The check you sent me for $100 dollars was accidentally destroyed with the envelope in which came though I still have the letter. Will you kindly send me a duplicate? If I can find an old photograph of which I speak I will send you one though it is somewhat antiquated. Believe me yours very truly". Paul van Dyke (1859-1933) was an American historian and minister. Graduating from Princeton in 1881 and then Princeton Theological Seminary in 1884, Van Dyke became a Presbyterian minister, teaching at the aforementioned Theological Seminary. He held the chair of modern European history and other various positions at the university, and would later write "Renascence Portraits", a book illustrating the Renaissance in three different regions of Europe at the same time. Normal mailing folds. Corners and edges worn. Fine condition.
