Index card signed "Sincerely" by musician and songwriter Paul Weston
Inscribed card signed "To Jordan Weiss/Sincerely,/Paul Weston". 5x3 card. The father of mood music, Weston (1912-1996), born Paul Wetstein, got his professional start as a vocal arranger for Rudy Vallee and Tommy Dorsey. He wrote jumping hits for vocalists like Dinah Shore and Jo Stafford, whom he married, and led his own orchestra during the big band period. Weston became an executive at Capitol Records in 1944 and, noticing changes in musical tastes, released his first album of mood music - before the term had even been coined - in 1945 with Music for Dreaming. He also wrote arrangements for singers like Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and Doris Day and arranged movie music (including the music for Road to Morocco and Holiday Inn, both in 1942). Weston also recorded a number of off-key, off-time and deliberately horrid novelty records with wife Stafford as Jonathan and Darlene Edwards - an act that, ironically, earned him his only Grammy, for 1960's In Paris. Lightly toned, otherwise in fine condition.
