PAUL ZINDEL
The author signs the opening lines of his Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds.
Typescript signed: "by/Paul Zindel", 1p, 8½x11. The opening lines of his 1971 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds. Paul Zindel (1936-2003) wrote his first play, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds in 1964, saw it performed off-Broadway in 1970 and on Broadway in 1971, winning the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in the latter year. It became a film in 1972. Zindel wrote several other plays, none as successful as Marigolds, and 39 novels aimed at children and young adults, many of them semi-autobiographical stories set on Staten Island. Best known of these was The Pigman (1968), taught in many high school English classes but also high on the list of banned books as a result of language some find objectionable. Beginning with Loch (1994), Zindel turned to speculative fiction, still reaching a youthful audience. He adapted several books and plays for film and television, including Mame (1974), Runaway Train (1985) and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1989).  Lightly creased. Fine condition.
