PAULENE MYERS. Autograph Letter signed: "Paulene", 2p, 6x8. No place, 1970 August 4. On personal letterhead to "Dear Joe and Kate" [Weigand]. In full: "Departing from the generally accepted, to address and thank you both for extending yourselves to make my engagement at Emporia so pleasant. You don't know what a life it gave me to be greeted by such warm people after that wretched bus ride! Having Joe go with me to the turnpike for the trip out made it even shorter and actually pleasant. The remainder of the tour went extremely well. It was certainly due in part to the renewed spirit you two gave me in Emporia. Thank you again. Hope that 'Mother' continues to improve. Take care and God bless. Most cordially." Fine condition. Accompanied by Autograph Envelope unsigned, 6x4, addressed in Myers' hand to Dr. Joseph Weigand, Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas, postmarked Los Angeles, California, August 4, 1970. Printed name "Pauline Myers" on reverse flap. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition. African-American actress Paulene Myers has played supporting roles in many films, including To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) and Lady Sings the Blues (1972). She made 40 years of guest appearances on TV, from The Hallmark Hall of Fame (1953) to The Cosby Show (1992). Two items.
