PEARL S. BUCK
She thanks a Brooklyn writer for contacting her, offering to review one of his novels.
Typed letter signed: "Pearl S. Buck", ¼p, 7¼x10½. New York City, 1936 March 26. To Milton Bernstein, Brooklyn, New York. In full: "Thank you very much indeed for your letter of March 25. If you will send your copies of the books to me at the address given above, I shall very gladly autograph them for you. And when you write your novel, if you like, please send it to me and let me tell you what I think of it." Accompanied by original mailing envelope. Written the year before her best-selling novel, The Good Earth, was made into a feature film. Just two years later, she would become the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Pearl Sydenstricker Buck (1892-1973), born to Presbyterian missionaries, spent the first forty years of her life in China, the setting of many of her books. Her second novel, The Good Earth, won the 1932 Pulitzer Prize, and Buck also won the 1938 Nobel Prize in Literature for her epic works about China. She later wrote about other Asian nations, such as India (Mandala) and Korea (The Living Reed). Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Lightly stained at upper horizontal fold, touching typed text (all legible). Lightly stained on verso at lower horizontal fold (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
