PEDRO GONZALEZ GONZALEZ

The actor pens a kind letter to a fan expressing his contentment to be remembered, signed in black ink

Autograph Letter Signed: “Your amigo/Pedro G. Gonzalez” in black ink. 8½x11. One page. Dated on August 28, 2005. Place: Culver City, CA. In full: “To: William Dutcher. I was glad to hear I still being entertainment to my fans; that's what my life is all about!!! Bringing joy to people like you and your son. I admire people in your profession; keep up the good word. Your Amigo, Pedro G. Gonzalez”. Pedro Gonzalez (1926-2006), born in the US to a Mexican mother and Spanish father, dropped out of school at age 7 to join a traveling act entertaining migrant workers. Since he was illiterate, his wife read him lines to memorize. A World War II veteran, Gonzalez became a Spanish-language standup comic after the war. In 1953, he was a big hit bantering with Groucho Marx on TV's You Bet Your Life quiz show. John Wayne reportedly saw the show, and began casting Gonzalez in comic roles in his films (Rio Bravo, The High and the Mighty, Hellfighters). Although some criticized Gonzalez for perpetuating stereotypes with his film roles, his grandson, actor Clifton Collins, Jr., pointed out after Gonzalez' death that he had taken the only roles offered to him. Lightly worn, toned and creased. Upper margin slightly frayed. Otherwise, fine condition.
