PEGGY CASS
Signing on the cast page of a playbill for Touch and Go, her Broadway debut
Show Bill signed: "Peggy Cass", full program (33 pages), 6½x9. Playbill for a production of Touch and Go at New York's Broadhurst Theatre (1949-1950), signed on the cast page. Stage, screen and television actress Peggy Cass (1924-1999), born Mary Margaret Cass, won a Tony Award for her role as Agnes Gooch in Auntie Mame, and she was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award and a Golden Globe for reprising the role in the 1958 film version. Cass, who was most noted for her raspy voice and comedy roles, also appeared in such feature films as The Marrying Kind (1952), Gidget Goes Hawaiian (1962), If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium (1969), Age of Consent (1969), Paddy (1970) and Cheaters (1984). Her television credits include recurring roles on The Hathaways (1961-1962), The Doctors (1978-1979) and Women in Prison (1987-1988), and Cass also hosted Breakaway (1983) and made guest appearances on a long list of TV series. With her encyclopedic mind and quick wit, Cass was especially popular on TV game shows, including I've Got a Secret, Password, To Tell the Truth, What's My Line? and Match Game 73. Cass sang three songs in the musical Touch and Go. Toned. Ink notes (in unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
