pages), 6½x9. Playbill for a production of Touch and Go at New York's
Broadhurst Theatre (1949-1950), signed on the cast page. Stage, screen and
television actress Peggy Cass (1924-1999), born Mary Margaret Cass, won a
Tony Award for her role as Agnes Gooch in Auntie Mame, and she was
nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award and a Golden
Globe for reprising the role in the 1958 film version. Cass, who was most
noted for her raspy voice and comedy roles, also appeared in such feature
films as The Marrying Kind (1952), Gidget Goes Hawaiian (1962),
If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium (1969), Age of Consent
(1969), Paddy (1970) and Cheaters (1984). Her television credits
include recurring roles on The Hathaways (1961-1962), The
Doctors (1978-1979) and Women in Prison (1987-1988), and Cass also
hosted Breakaway (1983) and made guest appearances on a long list
of TV series. With her encyclopedic mind and quick wit, Cass was especially
popular on TV game shows, including I've Got a Secret,
Password, To Tell the Truth, What's My Line? and Match
Game 73. Cass sang three songs in the musical Touch and Go. Toned.
