PEGGY PHILLIPS
The writer and press agent sends a letter to Theatre World founder Daniel Blum on the behalf of her client, the famous Jessica Tandy
Typed letter signed: "Peggy" in blue ink. 1 page, 8½x7¼. New York City, New York, November 1, 1951. On letterhead of The Playwrights Company, New York. To "Dear Dan" In full: "Your telephone has been continually busy, so am writing to let you know that regarding photos of Jessica Tandy, we are having new ones made next week, and will send one to you just as soon as the prints come in. Sincerely" PEGGY PHILLIPS (1916-2004) was a longtime screenplay and script writer who wrote episodes for Days of Our Lives (1965-1966), Lassie (1958-1963), and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1956-1958). Also a press agent, Phillips is credited to over 20 Broadway productions, beginning as early as 1944. She was the press rep for her last Broadway show, My Fair Lady as the show toured from 1956 to 1962. Possessing a great dignity tempered by the humorous sparkle in her clear blue eyes, JESSICA TANDY (1909-1994) was among the Grande dames of stage and screen. She earned Tony awards for the premier of A Streetcar Named Desire (1947) and The Gin Game (1978). She won an Oscar as Best Actress for Driving Miss Daisy (1989), and won her third Tony for her work in 1983's Foxfire (she would win an Emmy in 1987 for the same role in the play's televised version). In 1942, she married Canadian stage and screen actor Hume Cronyn and they remained professional and personal partners until Tandy's death in 1994. JOHN A. WILLIS (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Creased from fold. Fine condition.
