The dancer and actress signs this photograph of her wearing a costume
at a young age
Inscribed photograph signed: "For Doris/Gratefully/Peggy Ryan"
in black ink. 5x7. Peggy Ryan (1924-2004) made her film debut at the
age of six in The Wedding of Jack and Jill (1930). Over the next 23
years, she appeared in a number of musical comedies, most notably with Donald
O'Connor, and dramatic feature films and appeared O'Connor in USO tours during
WWII. After leaving films, Ryan ran her own dance school and retired to
Hawaii, where she occasionally appeared in the TV series, Hawaii 5-0,
as Jack Lord's secretary. In the early 1980s, she moved to Las Vegas,
where she taught tap dancing and produced reviews, teaching and performing
until just days before she entered a hospital and died from the effects of two
strokes at age 80. Toned. Corners rounded. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso.
