Virginia McKenna, Ronald Howard, and John Whiting sign a show bill for A Penny For a Song.

Program for performances of A Penny For a Song, by John Whiting, at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, 1951 March 1. Signed on cast page. McKenna played the part of Dorcas Bellboys, while Howard played Edward Sterne. A British actress who debuted on stage in 1950 and film two years later, VIRGINIA McKENNA (born in 1931) is best known for her roles in high quality animal films co-starring her husband Bill Travers: Born Free, (1966) for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe; and Ring of Bright Water (1969). She won a British Academy Award for A Town Like Alice (1956). RONALD HOWARD (1918-1996), the son of British actor Leslie Howard, performed on the London stage and in feature films from the end of World War II through the early 1970s. He portrayed Sherlock Holmes in a joint Anglo-French TV series (1954). JOHN WHITING (1917-1963) was a British playwright whose dramatization of Aldous Huxley's The Devils of Loudon appeared on Broadway as The Devils (1965-1966). He also wrote screenplays, including The Ship That Died of Shame (1955). Whiting's last name is signed rather faintly. Otherwise, fine condition.
