Typed Letter signed: "P. Wren", 1p, 4¾x7. Affixed to cardstock of same
size. Pigeon House Meadow, Beaconsfield (England), 1935 June 6. To
"Dear Mr. Davis", in full: "I enclose my autograph with
pleasure and am honoured by your request for it. With all good wishes, Yours
most sincerely". Percival Christopher (Percy) Wren (1875-1941), a descendent
of the famous 17th century architect, taught school in England and India,
becoming a Captain in the Poona Volunteer Rifles during his years in India
(1903-1917). He claimed to have served 5 years in the French Foreign Legion,
though such service has not been verified. He returned to England to write
adventure fiction, his best known (and twice filmed) novel being Beau
Geste (1924), a tale of the French Foreign Legion. Lightly foxed. Unevenly
toned. Slightly rippled from mounting adhesive. Otherwise, fine
condition.
