Brief autograph letter naming his favorite fiction book, Huckleberry Finn
Autograph Letter signed: "Percy MacKaye", 1 page, 5¾x3½. The Players, Gramercy Park, New York, N. Y., 1930 May 16. To "Dear Miss Jean Feldman", in full: "I think my favorite work of fiction is Mark Twain's 'Huckleberry Finn'. Yours sincerely". Percy MacKaye (1875-1956) was the author of several plays, beginning with the humorous The Canterbury Pilgrims (1903), as well as 4 volumes of poetry. In 1950, he wrote a series of plays designed to serve as a prequel to Shakespeare's Hamlet. MacKaye was a strong advocate for public funding of the arts. Percy MacKaye's father was actor/impresario Steel MacKaye. His brothers were philosopher James MacKaye and conservationist Benton MacKaye. Adhesive residue on verso. Fine condition.
