Perry Belmont writes to William Sulzer asking him to look over an article
that Perry Belmont wrote.
Autograph Letter Signed: "Perry Belmont", 1p, 4½x7. Roslyn, Long
Island, 1899 November 29. To Hon. William Sulzer. In full: "I am sending
you today, from New York, the December number of the North American Review,
containing an article by me; if you have a few moments to spare I hope you will
look it over." PERRY BELMONT (1851-1947), first born of August
Belmont Sr., was Democratic Congressman from New York (1881-1888) and U.S.
Minister to Spain (1888-1889). A prominent New York lawyer, in 1905, he
successfully initiated and organized the movement for the Federal and State
campaign-publicity legislation. It was enacted into law in 1911 and he was
elected president of the National Association for Campaign Publicity Law.
WILLIAM SULZER became Governor of New York on January 1, 1913. As a
result of his quarrel with the Tammany Hall organization, Sulzer was impeached
and removed from office on October 18, 1913. Irregular left edge. Fine
condition.
