Journalist and author PETER HAMILL (1935-2020) has written for many newspapers, spending most of his time in New York with the Post and Daily News. Among his published works are two collections of his columns, ten novels (most set in New York City, like North River, 2007), two books of short stories, and some non-fiction. His A Drinking Life (1994) chronicled his own journey from drink to sobriety. He won a Grammy (1975) for the liner notes on a Bob Dylan album. Hamill won the Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists in 2005. A friend of Robert Kennedy who helped persuade him to seek the Presidency, he helped wrestle Sirhan Sirhan to the ground after RFK's assassination. Stand-up comedian DAVID BRENNER(1936-2014) appeared on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show 158 times, more than any other guest. Brenner, who ranked #53 in Comedy Central's ranking of the 100 greatest stand-up comics of all time, married his first wife, Elizabeth Slater, during his HBO Comedy Special in Las Vegas (2000).  In 2014 he passed away from his battle with cancer.  Lightly frayed at left edge.
