PETE ROSE and JIM RICE
Color publicity photograph of Pete Rose and Jim Rice.
Photograph signed: "Pete Rose" and "Jim Rice". Color, 7½x9½. PETE ROSE, born in 1941, is major league baseball's career leader in hits (4,256), singles, at bats and games played, had more than 200 hits in a season ten times. Nicknamed "Charlie Hustle", the 17-time All-Star during a 24-year major league career (1963-1986) went on to manage the Cincinnati Reds (1984-1989), the team with which he had starred in four of his six World Series appearances. Allegations of betting on baseball led to Rose's suspension from baseball in 1989; consequently, his name has never appeared on a Hall of Fame ballot. Many fans support his reinstatement and/or election to the Hall. As a successor to Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski in left field for the Boston Red Sox, JIM RICE (born in 1953) emerged as the AL's most feared slugger in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The rock-solid 6'2" 200-pound right-hander used his quick, compact stroke and immensely strong wrists to send home runs crashing into upper decks or soaring completely over the screen above Fenway Park's Green Monster. Rice's career stats include 2,089 games played, .298 average, 382 home runs and 1,451 RBIs. He led the league in home runs in 1977-78 and 1983, led in RBIs 1978 and 1983, was an All-Star in 1977-1980 and 1983-1986 and was voted Most Valuable Player in 1978. Because Rice was injured throughout the 1975 World Series, these two baseball greats faced one another on the field only during All-Star games. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 13½x21.
