PETE SEEGER
Pete Seeger signs a 4¼x6 advertising promotion for "Pure Pete Seeger", an interview with the singer/songwriter on Bill Moyers' Journal.
Advertisement signed: "Pete Seeger" in ink on front and in red felt-tip pen on verso. Color, 4¼x6 overall, image 3½x4¼ (one surface). Promotion for "Pure Pete Seeger", an interview with the singer/songwriter on Bill Moyers' Journal to be aired on PBAS on May 20, 1994. Printed caption on verso, in part: "Folksinger. Songwriter. Storyteller. Activist. In celebration of Pete Seeger's 75th birthday, Bill Moyers visits him at his home in New York's Hudson Valley for a conservation about his life and times, and the music that has reflected them. It's an hour of Pure Pete Seeger." Pete Seeger (1919-2014) was the dean of American folk singers, his activist words and music influencing generations of performers, especially the politically conscious folk singers popular in the 1960s. Seeger rearranged an old African-American spiritual into what became "We Shall Overcome," the anthem of the Civil Rights movement, and other songs he has written and recorded include "If I Had a Hammer", "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" and "Turn, Turn Turn" (a Biblical adaptation). Seeger's foes have included the House Un-American Activities Committee, but his friends number Woody Guthrie, Martin Luther King and Cesar Chavez. He continued to play until his later years, earning a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album in 1996, and in 2012 authored his autobiography Pete Seeger: His Life in His Own Words. Slightly soiled on verso, which has light paper clip mark at upper left blank margin. Corners lightly worn and creased. Edges slightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
