PETE SEEGER
Black and white 5x7 publicity photograph of Pete Seeger smiling at the camera.
Printed photograph signed: "Pete Seeger". B/w, 5x7 overall, image 4½x5¾ (one surface). Typed name and photo credit at lower margin. Photograph by Toshi Seeger, the singer/songwriter's wife. Pete Seeger (1919-2014) was the dean of American folk singers, his activist words and music influencing generations of performers, especially the politically conscious folk singers popular in the 1960s. Seeger rearranged an old African-American spiritual into what became "We Shall Overcome," the anthem of the Civil Rights movement, and other songs he has written and recorded include "If I Had a Hammer", "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" and "Turn, Turn Turn" (a Biblical adaptation). Seeger's foes have included the House Un-American Activities Committee, but his friends number Woody Guthrie, Martin Luther King and Cesar Chavez. He continued to play until his later years, earning a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album in 1996, and in 2012 authored his autobiography Pete Seeger: His Life in His Own Words. Fine condition.
