PETER CUSHING
Peter Cushing writes a letter thanking a friend for his previous letter and for supporting a young student.
Autograph Letter Signed: "Peter", 2p, 5½x3½ card, front and verso. Whitstable, 1973 January 12. On card imprinted with his name at upper margin to Søren Fischer. In full: "Thank you so much for your kind letter dated January 10th: I know how grateful the young man from Ireland will be. It is good of you to accommodate him. I look forward to seeing you next week-end - & do hope the occasion will be a popular success. May God's blessing be with you always. In all sincerity." On January 21, 1973, Cushing gave a lecture for Søren Fischer of John Player Lectures. One of those in attendance was a young man from Ireland, for whom Cushing had requested a ticket, which had been provided by Fischer at no cost. In 1973, Cushing would star in four horror films, And Now the Screaming Starts!, Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires, Count Dracula and his Vampire Bride and From Beyond the Grave, and appeared on the TV series, Great Mysteries. British stage actor Peter Cushing (1913-1994) also found international success in films, including several portrayals of Baron Frankenstein (beginning with The Curse of Frankenstein in 1957), and as Sherlock Holmes (beginning with The Hound of the Baskervilles in 1959). He also played the banally evil Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars (1977). Though best known for his horror films, Cushing was said to be proudest of his classical stage performances. Cushing, who was made an Officer of the British Empire for his contributions to acting in Britain and worldwide, also wrote an autobiography. Ink slightly smudged at 2 words of salutation, else fine condition.
