PETER CUSHING
Black and white publicity photograph of Peter Cushing in his role as General Spielsdorf in the 1970 film, Vampire Lovers.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "Bill Wray God's/blessing be with you/always./in all sincerity/Peter Cushing '78". B/w, 3½x5½. Pictured in his role as General Spielsdorf in the 1970 film, Vampire Lovers, in which his daughter (Pippa Steel) is bitten by a vampiress. In the year he signed this photograph, Cushing appeared in the British black comedy, Hitler's Son, and the horror film, The Uncanny. British stage actor Peter Cushing (1913-1994) also found international success in films, including several portrayals of Baron Frankenstein (beginning with The Curse of Frankenstein in 1957), and as Sherlock Holmes (beginning with The Hound of the Baskervilles in 1959). He also played the banally evil Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars (1977). Though best known for his horror films, Cushing was said to be proudest of his classical stage performances. Cushing, who was made an Officer of the British Empire for his contributions to acting in Britain and worldwide, also wrote an autobiography. Lightly creased with a small chip at upper left edge, else fine condition.
