Poster signed: "In all sincerity/Peter Cushing/'84" at lower left background. Color, 27x40. Poster for his 1960 British film, The Brides of Dracula, in which Cushing starred as Doctor J. Van Helsing. ©1960, Universal Pictures Co., Inc. Released by Hammer Films and directed by Terence Fisher, the film also starred Martita Hunt, Yvonne Monlaur, Freda Jackson and David Peel. In the year he signed this poster, Cushing appeared in two feature films, Sword of the Valiant: The Legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Top Secret, and two made-for-TV movies, Helen Keller: The Miracle Continues and The Masks of Death (his last appearance as Sherlock Holmes). In the year of this film, Cushing could also be seen on the big screen in The Hellfire Club, Suspect and Sword of Sherwood Forest. British stage actor Peter Cushing (1913-1994) also found international success in films, including several portrayals of Baron Frankenstein (beginning with The Curse of Frankenstein in 1957), and as Sherlock Holmes (beginning with The Hound of the Baskervilles in 1959).Best known for his horror films, Cushing also played the banally evil Governor Tarkin in Star Wars (1977). Creased with folds, not at signature. Lightly soiled at upper portion. Several holes, including ½x¼-inch holes at lower left and upper right blank areas, 2 pinhead-size holes at upper right margin, tack holes at blank margins and staple holes at upper portion. Several tears, including ½-inch tears at mid-vertical fold and lower cross fold, ¾-inch tear at lower blank edge and minor tears, 1 touching the "s" of Brides. Chipped at upper right blank edge. Overall, fragile condition.
