PETER JACKSON
Copy of Peter Jackson's column London Walk on historic London buildings, signed with his "Best Wishes". Jackson was renowned for his historical cartoons of London, which ran in the London Evening News from 1949 to 1980.
Autograph note signed "Best Wishes to Victor Croxford/-Peter Jackson". 1 page, 8½x9¼, mounted to a same size sheet of paper. Written on a copy of Jackson's column London Walk, entitled: "Lord of/London's/Stone...". Multi-talented British artist Jackson (1922-2003), born Peter Charles Geoffrey Jackson, is probably best known for a series of historical articles and cartoons - London Is Stranger Than Fiction, The London Explorer and Somewhere to Go - in the London Evening News, which ran from 1949 until the paper folded in 1980. He was also an inveterate collector of Londonania and had one of the largest private collections of material relating to London, including 25,000 prints and numerous maps. Jackson began his career in 1945 and drew a few other comics in the late 1940s, which were mostly historical strips (like Jack the Jailbreaker, a biography of 18th century robber Jack Sheppard) and comic adaptations of classic novels like Ivanhoe and Treasure Island. Lightly toned and creased. Irregular right edge. Comes folded in half. Otherwise in fine condition.
