MARY TRAVERS
Mary Travers signs this document in 1991 for the Today show, saying that she didn't pay NBC, and NBC didn't pay her, for her appearance.
Document Signed: "Mary Travers". Travers' printed name, the date and the name of program written in ink at lower portion, all in unknown hand. 1 page, 8½x11. July 17,1991. Titled: "Statement Pursuant To Section 507 Of The/Communications Act of 1934 - Guest". Disclaimer for Travers' appearance on the Today show. The document relates to the guest not giving anything of value to anyone associated with the program, not accepting anything of value to promote anything on the program and notifying the NBC Compliance and Practices Department of any violation of the rules set forth in the document. Travers (1937-2009) was a founding member of legendary folk group Peter, Paul and Mary. Travers grew up in New York City's Greenwich Village and with the folk songs of the Weavers, Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie. She'd already performed at Carnegie Hall and recorded with Pete Seeger with a group called the Songswappers before forming Peter, Paul and Mary in 1961 with Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey. Peter, Paul and Mary put 11 songs on the Billboard Pop Singles and Adult Contemporary charts, including the civil rights anthem If I Had a Hammer (1962) and the chart toppers Blowin' in the Wind (1963), Puff (The Magic Dragon) (1963) and a cover of John Denver's Leaving on a Jet Plane (1969), with lead vocals by Travers, and won three Grammies for If I Had a Hammer, Blowin' in the Wind and the 1969 album Peter, Paul and Mommy. The band broke up in 1970, and Travers continued to perform and record as a soloist, releasing the Adult Contemporary Top 10 song Follow Me (1971), before reuniting with Stookey and Yarrow in 1978, a partnership that endured until 2009. Lightly creased, otherwise in fine condition.
