PETER SELLERS
In this letter signed by Sellers, he responds to a request for an autographed photograph
Typed letter signed "Peter Sellers", 1 page, 5½x7, on Seller's personalize stationery. BBC, London, 1957 January 4. To Miss Stella McBlain, Manchester, Lancashire. In full: "Many thanks for your letter and kind remarks. As requested, I am enclosing herewith an autographed photograph (not present) - I do hope you like it. Once again many thanks for writing". Sellershadappeared in a few British movies, including 1955's The Ladykillers, and on BBC's skit comedy show The Goon Show, but was still relatively unknown to American audiences. He was still two years from 1959's The Mouse that Roared - where he played three roles, including Grand Duchess Gloriana II - which would make him a superstar. One of the greatest comic talents of his generation, Peter Sellers had an exceptional gift for losing himself in a character -- so much so that, beyond his remarkable skill as a performer and his fondness for the humor of the absurd, it's difficult to draw a connection between many of his best performances. He is perhaps best known for his role as Inspector Clouseau in a series of Pink Panther films. Sellers was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in 1964 (Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb) and 1979 (Being There). Known as a workaholic who pushed himself to the limit despite heart attacks, Sellers was 54 when he died of one in 1980. Lightly toned and creased. Page has been folded in three and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
