Peter Sellers thanks a friend for a cable that was sent to offer condolences on the passing of his mom.
Typed Letter Signed: "Peter", 1p, 8x10. London, 1967 January 31. To Mrs. Elsie Hoyle, Middlesex. In full: "Many thanks for your cable. It was very sweet and thoughtful of you to send it. It was, of course, a terrible shock to me, as I was devoted to her, but I am only grateful to know that my mother's last few years were very happy". One of the greatest comic talents of his generation, Peter Sellers had an exceptional gift for losing himself in a character -- so much so that, beyond his remarkable skill as a performer and his fondness for the humor of the absurd, it's difficult to draw a connection between many of his best performances. He is perhaps best known for his role as Inspector Clouseau in a series of Pink Panther films. Sellers was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in 1964 (Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb) and 1979 (Being There). Known as a workaholic who pushed himself to the limit despite heart attacks, Sellers was 54 when he died of one in 1980. Fold creases. Lightly stained at middle left margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
