Peter Vidmar signs a first day cover honoring the 1979 Special Olympics.
First Day Cover signed: "Peter Vidmar", 6½x3¾. FDC honoring the 1979 Special Olympics, 15-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Brockport, NY, August 9, 1979, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. A member of the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame, gymnast Peter Vidmar won two gold medals and a silver medal at the 1984 Olympic games.The captain of the U.S. men's gymnastic team, Vidmar led his teammates to America's first team gold medal, defeating the defending world champions, the People's Republic of China. His second gold resulted from his performance on the pommel horse, and his second place finish in the individual all-around competition (with a perfect score of 10) made him the only American to have ever won an Olympic All-Around silver medal. Vidmar continues his involvement with the Olympics by serving as a journalist or broadcaster at each summer Olympics and through his work with Olympic committees, including co-chairing the U .S. Olympic Committee Summer Sports Summit. Slightly creased. Fine condition.
