Weller, born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin in 1947, is probably best known as
the gun slinging scientist Buckaroo Banzai in the cult classic The
Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension! (1984) and as
Alex J. Murphy, a police officer who's transformed into a cyborg in
Robocop (1987). But Weller as a versatile actor of stage, TV and
films with four Broadway appearances and almost 60 TV shows and movies to his
credit. Weller, who first appeared on TV in The Man Without a Country
(1973) and on the silver screen in Butch and Sundance: The Early Days
(1979), has played lead and support roles in Westerns (the aforementioned
Butch and Sundance), comedies (Mighty Aphrodite, 1995), science
fiction (Leviathan, 1989, and Screamers, 1995) and the simply
bizarre (the aforementioned Buckaroo Banzai and in the role of Bill Lee,
a stand-in for William S. Burroughs in Naked Lunch (1991). Weller also
holds a Masters degree in Renaissance architecture; he's an occasional lecturer
at Syracuse University on the Roman empire and hosted the TV documentary series
Engineering an Empire (2005-2007). He directed an unsold TV pilot in 1993
called Partners which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Live
Action Short Film. Fine condition.
