PETR KLIMA
The professional hockey player signs this 8x10½ magazine photograph in purple felt tip
Magazine photograph signed: "Petr/Klima/85" in purple felt. 8x10½. Petr Klima (1964-2023)
is a former NHL forward who played 13 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton
Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings, and the Pittsburgh Penguins between 1985
and 1999. He won the 1990 Stanley Cup Championships with the Edmonton Oilers.
After a covert mission to legally defect to the U.S. ran successfully, Klima joined the
Detroit Red Wings in 1985, and honored the year he arrived to America by claiming jersey
number 85. He was one of the Red Wings top stars; however, off the ice, Klima was a major
problem for Detroit's management due to his heavy alcohol consumption. He and fellow
teammate Bob Probert were suspended indefinitely in 1988 for breaking rules at training
camp. Klima worked on his drinking habits, and was eventually able to rejoin the squad after a
heartfelt apology. Probert was not as successful, and his frequent run-ins with the authorities
finally resulted in six-months in prison. Klima is the first Czechoslovakian player to ever
defect straight to the United States. Edges irregular. Lightly rippled throughout from
adhesive. Otherwise, fine condition.
