PETULA CLARK
Photo promoting her Greatest Hits album
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Freddie/Petula/Clark".
Color, 8x10. British entertainer Petula Clark (born in 1932) was
not "discovered" by most American audiences until 1965, thanks to her hit
recording "Downtown", which led to other hit songs including "Don't Sleep in
the Subway" and "I Know a Place". However, she was a child star in England
two decades earlier, having hosted her own radio program, Pet's
Parlour, on which she sang morale-boosting patriotic songs during WWII.
Clark appeared in many British films of the late 1940s and the 1950s. Later film
roles included Finian's Rainbow (1968) and Goodbye, Mr. Chips
(1969). In the early 1990s, she starred on Broadway in the musical Blood
Brothers. Fine condition.
