PHIL DONAHUE
This black and white photograph is signed by the talk show host who brought a variety of political issues of the day to the forefront of American society
Inscribed Photograph Signed: "To/Lisa/with best wishes/Phil Donahue". B/w. 8x10. Actual image 7½x9½ with a white border (one surface). Host of the Emmy Award-winning talk showThe Phil Donahue Show (1967-1996), Phil Donahue (1935-2024) wasone of the originators of the daytime talk show format, featuring panel discussions on controversial social issues, celebrity guests and audience participation. First broadcast locally in 1967, Donahue earned high ratings with viewers until its final segment in 1996 despite growing competition from other talk show programs. Donahue, who was an interviewer for the Today show from 1979-1982, has also hosted three other series: Donahue and Kids (1981), Donahue/Pozner (1992), and Donahue (2002-2003). Donahue has also guest starred in feature films, made-for-television movies and television series, often appearing as himself or as a fictional talk show host. The Phil Donahue Show was unique not just in its audience participation, but its confrontation of social issues that Americans continue to deal with today. Late in the Cold War era, Phil Donahue and Russian talk show host Vladimir Pozner hosted a series of U.S.-Soviet Space Bridge telecasts, in which Soviet Union and United States citizens could ask each other questions about their country and culture. These telecasts broke down cultural barriers in a time when nuclear war was still a viable threat. He was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1992. Fine condition.
