PHIL RIZZUTO and TONY KUBEK
Giant, 20x16, photograph of the New York Yankees shortstops and future
baseball announcers.
Photograph signed: "Tony Kubek/#10" and "Phil
Rizzuto/#10". B/w, 20x16. PHIL "SCOOTER" RIZZUTO (1916-2007) was an
All-Star shortstop five times, and he was named the American League
MVP in 1950, when he peaked with a .324 average and 200 hits. Rizzuto
played on nine pennant winners and seven World Champions over his
13-year career. He was one of the most skillful bunters of all time.
A long-time Yankee broadcaster known for his exclamation, "Holy cow!" Rizzuto
saw his uniform #10 retired by the club in 1985. He entered the Hall of
Fame in 1994. ANTHONY CHRISTOPHER "TONY" KUBEK (born in 1936) was the
AL Rookie of the Year in 1957, hitting .297 and showing amazing
versatility as he spent substantial time in the outfield, at shortstop, and at
third base, with brief early stints at second base and first base as well. He
became the Yankees' regular shortstop in 1958. For eight seasons he
and second baseman Bobby Richardson formed one of baseball's best double-play
combinations. A dangerous neck and back condition forced Kubek to retire at
the age of 29, but he quickly became one of television's most successful
baseball announcers. Minor surface creases (not evident head on) at
background. Authentication sticker affixed at lower right portion. Fine
condition.
