5½x3½ color postcard photograph of the celebrated New York Yankees shortstop
Picture Postcard signed: "Phil Rizzuto" in blue ink. Color, 5½x3½. Facsimile signature
imprinted in black at upper right background. Brief biography of Rizzuto imprinted on verso,
which has 2-cent John Adams stamp affixed. Postmarked New York, New York, August 19,
1952. Addressed in unknown hand to a collector in Allston, Massachusetts. Phil "Scooter"
Rizzuto (1916-2007) was an All-Star shortstop five times, and he was named the American
League MVP in 1950, when he peaked with a .324 average and 200 hits. Rizzuto played on
nine pennant winners and seven World Champions over his 13-year career. He was one
of the most skillful bunters of all time. A long-time Yankee broadcaster known for his
exclamation, "Holy cow!" Rizzuto saw his uniform #10 retired by the club in 1985. He
entered the Hall of Fame in 1994. Lightly creased. Circular postal impression at facial image
on front. Lightly chipped and worn at left and right edges. Minor creases at corners. Verso is
lightly soiled. Mounting remnants at upper right-hand margin (no show-through). Otherwise,
fine condition.
