PHIL SCOTT
Small signed 3¼x4½ sepia-toned photo of British heavyweight
champ Phil Scott on the RMS Olympic and resting his arm on the nearest
thing: the head of another passenger
Photograph signed "yrs Sincerely/Phil Scott/Boxing
Champion/& Maragi" in blue ink. With "1927/Olympic" in top
left corner in unknown hand. B/w sepia-toned, 3¼x4½ overall, 3x4 image, one
surface. This ship is probably the RMS Olympic, which operated with the
White Star Line from 1911 to 1935. Scott (1900-1983, born in London,
United Kingdom) was a British heavyweight boxer who was Commonwealth
Heavyweight champion. He started fighting in 1921 after serving on the
HMS Trafalgar during the First World War and as a Scotland Yard
detective. Despite having almost no experience with what his handlers called
"infighting", he managed to rack up a 65-13-5 record, with 30 wins and 8 losses
to knockouts. Lightly toned, silvered, cracked, creased and bowed. Light
scratches on image. Light tear at left edge. Adhesive residue on verso (no
show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
