He has handwritten his 4-line poem "Vermont," inscribing it to a
Special Education class and explaining its meaning.
Autograph Poem inscribed and signed: "Philip Booth", 1p ,
8½x11. His 4-line poem, "Vermont". In full: "That narrow sea./A hard
riptide./The waves take centuries/to break." Below his signature, Booth has
penned an autograph note (in full): "This poem about how mountains can
look like the sea was written out for the Special Education Students in the
Rickwood-Clute Public Schools." The first book published by Philip Booth
(1925-2007), Letters from a Distant Land, was the Lamont Poetry
Selection in 1956. Booth's very accessible poems describe the people and
landscapes of New England, using the latter as metaphors for his states of
mind. His tenth and final poetry collection was Lifelines: Selected Poems
1950-1999. Lightly creased. Stray ink mark to right of poem. Vertical and
horizontal folds. Overall, fine condition.
