PHILIP BOOTH
Letter to a teacher whose students are studying his poetry
Typed Letter signed: "Philip Booth", 1p , 8½x11. On letterhead of Syracuse University Department of English. Syracuse, New York, 1981 January 29. To Lois Burch, St. Mary's Georgia. In full: "I'm glad to sign these poems you've typed up to give to your students [not included] as a form of encouragement, and I'm interested to see what poems you've chosen. Photographs I don't have, but I'm sure that Helen Oppenheimer at the Viking Press (625 Madison Avenue, New York City 10022) will be glad glad [sic] to send you one. Good luck with all that you're trying to teach. Sincerely." The first book published by Philip Booth (1925-2007), Letters from a Distant Land, was the Lamont Poetry Selection in 1956. Booth's very accessible poems describe the people and landscapes of New England, using the latter as metaphors for his states of mind. His tenth and final poetry collection was Lifelines: Selected Poems 1950-1999. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
