The stage manager, director and actor types a short letter to Editor John Willis updating his résumé on the Theatre World files.
Typed letter signed: "Philip Cusack" in black felt tip, 1 page, 5¾x8. New York City, March 5, 1974. To "Dear Mr. Willis," in full: "Theatre World has been very nice to me in the past and I would like to bring you up to date so I have enclosed a picture and a new bio [items not included]. I have been playing in the Good Doctor on B'way this week. Looking forward to the new Theatre World. Sincerely yours." Philip Cusack (1934-2013) was an American stage manager, director and performer who produced/managed 17 Broadway plays, including My Fat Friend (1974), California Suite (1976-1977), The Odd Couple (1985-1986) and They're Playing Our Song (1979-1981). While he was more known for musicals and romantic comedies, Cusack worked as stage manager on his last three shows for the popular dramas Death of a Salesman (1999), Long Day's Journey into Night (2003) and A Streetcar Named Desire (2005). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
