PHILO T. FARNSWORTH
He has signed a copy of a ceramics text from his own library.
Book signed: "P. T. Farnsworth", 380 pages, 5¼x10. Book titled Ceramics: Physical and Chemical Fundamentals, by Hermann Salmang. London: Butterworths, 1961. Later printing. Hardcover with dust jacket. Signed in black felt tip on the first free end page. Farnsworth's personal library sticker is affixed to the inside board. American inventor and television pioneer Philo Taylor Farnsworth (1906-1971) invented the video camera tube, the first all-electronic scanning system. In 1928 and 1929, he made public demonstrations of a crude but working television system. After working with RCA and Philco, Farnsworth started his own company in 1938, continuing to improve TV capabilities while fighting continuous legal battles over patents and royalties. Not content with television, Farnsworth invented many other devices, including a milk sterilizer, a fog-penetrating beam for ships and aircraft, a defense early warning system, an infrared telescope and a nuclear fusion device, the Farnsworth-Hirsch Fusor. In 1999, Time magazine numbered Farnsworth among the "100 Most Important People of the Twentieth Century." Mild to moderate toning and soiling of the dust jacket. Otherwise, fine condition.
